Slim & Roy

Slim and Roy are doing great!! They are such sweet boys and have made themselves right at home! They stay in the yard when we open the gate, and have decided they like to be front porch dogs during the day. They are eating well, playing well, and are so loving. My son, Witt, loves to play with them.

We are loving them and they are definitely part of our family. Thanks so much for rescuing them, and I am so glad I found your posting on OOTW's website!

Thanks again,
Julie C.

Dawny

Dawny is doing great, spoiled as ever. She has lost some weight and doesn't favor her hip anymore. She runs and plays with our other two dogs and loves going on her walks. She likes to hog all the toys and thinks every blanket we have is hers. Now when my husband gets up and gets in the shower she gets in the bed right next to me.

Eli (aka Roy)

Eli has been the absolute most perfect dog
these past two weeks. He was amazing on
the long ride to St. Louis and just sat quietly
in the back seat the entire 6 hours. He slept
on and off the whole trip and when he wasn't
sleeping, he just laid in the back and watched
me or looked out the window.
My cat Louie and Eli had a little adjustment
period for the first few days, but now they get
along just fine. They'll either act like the other
one isn't there, or playfully chase each other
around the house. No hissing, no swatting,
nothing to make me think we're going to
have any problem with them living together.
Every day he's either gone on a long walk/run
or taken a trip to the park so he's had plenty of
opportunities to get his energy out and get
bonding time with both myself and other
friends and roommates in St. Louis. Everyone
continues to say how amazed they are at how
calm he is and how good he is with other
people/pets. We're working on socializing him
with other dogs and he's doing a lot better.
He's really good at sitting and laying down and
staying until we tell him to come. Overall, it's
been a really enjoyable almost two weeks and
I'm so thankful that we met and that I was
able to get Eli.

Lewis & Jake (aka Clark)

Lewis and Jake are thriving! They enjoy exploring the house, the yard, and the woods behind their new home whenever they get a chance, so they are living up to their original namesakes!

We are glad that Lewis and Jake have each other. They take turns being the "top dog" and are great exercise for one another! Jake was the first to climb stairs, but now they both take them with ease, opening up all sorts of adventures!

Lewis and Jake have joined a dog-loving family, so they are sure to be showered with lots of attention in the years to come! We are so glad to have been the recipients of their rescue.

Hank

Hank is an adorable little boy that has really warmed our hearts. When we lost our dog on Mother's Day, I thought I could never love another four legged critter or find one as sweet as our Rocky. Then Hank came in to our life and what a joy, he reminds me in some ways of our last one but he definitely has his own sweet personality. He follows me and my husband around the house. He is a great walker and goes for a 2 mile walk every morning at 6:30 (hope it cools down soon). He loves people and is good with them but knows when to be a watch dog.

Thank you! Donna for finding him.

River (aka Denver)

Sterling meeting her baby brother, River for the first time, she is tolerating him ;) Once he get's bigger, I know she'll love romping in the yard with him but so far she mostly just ignores him!

River is growing like a weed and has about tripled in size since we picked him up in September. He and his big sis, Sterling, are best friends now - she is being such a sweetheart putting up with his puppy antics. Clifton takes him to his office every day, where he has his own crate to sleep in when he's not helping close real estate deals ;) He already knows how to come, sit, stay, and is mostly house trained. Such a smart boy! We absolutely adore him - he was the perfect addition to our family.

Bear

I have been remiss on providing an update about Bear Ouari. We just celebrated our 2 year anniversary with our "big baby". Bear has had some big adventures since becoming a member of our family. He came to NYC where he quickly learned the ropes of being a city dog. He loves to go to Central Park for long walks and discovered some beautiful brooks to jump into and swim. Our family temporarily moved to Sarasota Florida and Bear loved going to the beach and swimming with my 8 year old son. We returned to NYC this past summer and Bear loved being back to his familiar territory. He resumed his title of being the "mayor of 89th Street". Everyone loves Bear! He has the sweetest demeanor!

Maggie (aka Merri Jane)

She absolutely must be where we are. She loves bringing her squeak toys to bed - which we eventually have to put up until the morning if we want any sleep. At night, she thinks it's her duty to lick our arms, legs, feet, face - anything that is exposed.

Thank you for bringing Maggie & our family together. I wish you many blessings for helping to change the lives of these dogs. There are so many of them that are such great dogs, they just need a chance.

(aka Phoebe with Sammy, left)

Just wanted to keep you in the loop with Della (Phoebe). She is such a sweetie! We couldn't be happier with her! Seth, who was so unsure if she would be a good match for Sammy is totally in love with her! She has calmed Sammy down and can lay by the cats without them hissing and has really made her way into our hearts! She is a part of our family now..

Thanks,

Maggie

When Carl and Dash (my 2 Katrina/Furr boys) gave paws up to adding a dog to our family, OOTW was the natural place to look. Our first priority was a dog who was liked cats, and we were drawn to Maggie immediately. From the first visit, we knew Maggie was the dog for us. She quickly adjusted to life with us, and has settled in as part of the family. I love coming home from work and being greeted by Carl, Dash and Maggie. Lately, Dash has started curling up with her, which warms my heart each time it happens.
I am grateful to the volunteers at OOTW for the wonderful work they do and for saving Maggie so she could make my life better!

Tru

Hey everybody, it's Tru!! I'm finally all settled in and comfortable in my new home all the way in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Can you believe it?! A little country dog like me all the way out here by myself, well I couldn't either at first. After a 2 day trip my new owner, LT picked me up with his two sisters Diana and Gabby. I was really, really scared when I first met them because I had no idea where I was. I cried and howled a little but eventually I realized there was nothing to be scared of. The very first day I got a brand new bed, some toys, a big bone, and most importantly a whole lot of love. When I got home I met their little brother Justin, and Dad. I liked Dad right away for some reason because when he walked through the door I wagged my tail all over the place!! It took a couple days for me to get used to the change, but I've been happy ever since. I've chewed up some stuff I wasn't supposed to here and there, but what can I say? I'm still just a puppy. Hope you all don't miss me too much, you'll hear from me again very soon.

Love, Tru

LiaAce.jpg
Ace (formerly Kodiak) & Lia

I live on Lake Willastein in Maumelle. Larry and I adopted Lia in February this year. She was 9 months old then and fostered with Kelley.

Two weeks ago, we were out for a walk just behind my house. This couple was walking up the path and the dogs wanted to say hi. The guy asked how old Lia was. We remarked that two were about the same age. He said Ace was a rescue and I said mine was too. Then he and his wife said, "Oh my gawd! Was it Out of the Woods? What is her name?" When I told him it was Lia, he said "OMG, Lia! She was the wild one."  It turns out, they are brother, Ace and sister, Lia.  They were very playful with each other, and both are usually skittish of most people.

What are the odds? It was a very fun meeting!

Thank you and your organization for all of the work you do to rescue these babies. They bring so much happiness, joy and laughter to us.

Precious

I have to say this must be a match made in doggie heaven. Precious has really made herself home and has stolen our hearts. We are just now getting home and it was almost impossible for me to leave her, she is so silly and playful and smart! She had no problems coming up the back porch after an adventure in the yard and she will sit pretty when offered a treat. Its been a while since I've seen my mom take an interest in something again, well since my dad died. She has been so idle since his passing but now she has something to take care of and I know both her and Precious are going to benefit from this.
God bless every one of you for your kind hearts and giving that little girl a second chance. We appreciate you so much!!

Mac (aka Stitch)

OUR HAPPY TAIL

Everyone that meets Mac falls in love instantly. It seems so weird to think Mac (Stitch) was ever not one of the family. He makes us laugh and he keeps the other two furballs on their toes. They love playing together. We couldn't have custom ordered a better dog. :) He lays in bed with me on my bad days when I can't get out of bed. He loves his nightly jogs with his daddy. And he is really smart, he is learning quickly to sit, stay, fetch and leave it. And the neatest thing is that even though he is still a pup with lots of energy he knows when it's time to be gentle. I have seizures and he seems to know when it's happened. Normally he'll run full force to jump on the bed but after a seizure he hops up lightly and almost tiptoes to me and lays by my side until I feel better.

He brings so much happiness to our lives. Thank you for making our family complete.

It has been almost 2 months since we adopted Princess. She is such a joy to be around! She has settled into our home and is doing wonderfully! Her favorite place to be is sitting on my wife's lap in my recliner... looks like the two girls out rank me! We couldn't have found a more perfect fit in our family than Princess. She is our forever angel.

Tex

Tex is adjusting really well ... Fuji (the cat) even likes to sneak up and check him out while he's sleeping, so I think they are going to be just fine together.

He seems ... a lot more comfortable and relaxed in general.  Whenever I come home from work his tail is wagging and he seems really excited to see me. We went to my neighbors house and he had fun playing with their little dog Sparkles and was great with their small kids, who loved giving him hugs.

So needless to say, things are working out great with him.  :)  I am so lucky and thankful to you guys for him and I think we are going to be a really good fit for each other.
Thanks again for everything,

Dear Holly,

Thanks for picking me up and feeding me and bringing me into your home when I needed it the most. I really like you and that man and the other dogs at your house. You truly were my savior. If you had not stopped and helped I would not be alive today and I will never forget that. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to tell you about my new home. There are two very nice humans and two VERY BIG girls that look just like me. There is so much food here just sitting out so I can eat any time I want, and a water bowl that never goes dry. There's bones and hoofs to chew on and toys, oh boy.... There's a big yard and a dog door so I can run and play with the other dogs in my new pack. I think the humans run this pack-- the other girls do what they say. I think I'm going to fit in just fine! There is a big soft bed behind the big chair where no body can step on me. I think I'm going to sleep there until the big girls trust me a little more. Thanks to your house training things are going well.

I think you did a very good job of finding me a new home. You're the best foster mom ever. I was getting very attached to you and I think you were to me to. But you need to help others. I know it's hard to let go, but know that I will give that love to my new pack so you can save other dogs.

I will never forget you.
All my love,

INDY

Luna (aka Mooch)

We were only talking about adding a third dog to help with the transition if something ever happened to Kobe, our almost 12 year old dachshund, so Teddy, our 7ish year old rescued Chihuahua mix, would never be alone. So, we weren't really looking to add another dog, particularly a puppy, to our home when we happened upon the picture of Mooch, a 2 month old dachshund/pug mix on PetFinder.com. Those big eyes just melted my heart, and, before I knew it, I was submitting the application.
My husband, LaRue, was still uncertain when we had our home visit with Mooch and her foster parents, Chelsea and Ryan. The first thing she did was disappear under the couch and emerge with a tennis ball that had been long forgotten by our boys. I held her up to LaRue, and as soon as I said, "Well, what do you think?" she leaned over and licked the tip of his nose. And that was that.
We changed her name to Luna, and she has brought our family back to life. Kobe and Teddy are again interested in chasing toys and tennis balls...especially if Luna is zipping by with one in her mouth. On those mornings I am dragging, she runs in to wake me with little Luna kisses. And even though she's had a few setbacks with her crate training, and chewed up a few things that weren't properly put away, she is still, without a doubt, her daddy's girl. She loves people and they can't help but love her. I am so glad we submitted our application to Out of the Woods and made our family whole.

Malachi, Nava & Karly

Shania’s new name is Nava means beautiful in Hebrew. Nava is warming up to us little by little. She loves me and my mom, especially when we're petting her. Malachi absolutely loves her. He tries to get her to play and shows her all his toys. She's still a little nervous around him and won't play at all but she follows him around and seems to take her cues about what she can and can't do from him. She ate some food and has spent time out in the snow. The cold doesn't seem to bother her but it's clear that snow is kind of a new thing. She's being very nice to our cats and isn't causing any trouble at all.
